Looks like the EU is working on requirements that will force datacenters by 2025 to report on energy and water usage in detail.

While I am not a fan of EU policymakers in general (they often first slow down new technology with regulations and then they finance economic support programs to win back competitiveness) here, this seems the only way to finally force to optimize and modernize where our data and cloud services are hosted.
