Platform business models not a European thing

In case you have not seen how under-represented Europe is in the BigTech world take a look at Dr. Holger Schmidt’s yearly top-100 platforms in the world chart.

When I saw this for the first time a few years ago I could hardly believe that we are so far behind. This is troubling and a problem also because future well-paying jobs are created by these fast-growing firms while traditional industries grow slower or not at all.

What needs to happen?

European companies only have 2.8% of the valuation of the top 100 big tech (platform) firms. Africa has 1.4% with only two big tech firms. The USA is at 78.5% and China at 17.3%.
